a5c7b9f00b When an old enemy, the Cylons, resurface and obliterate the 12 colonies, the crew of the aged Galactica protect a small civilian fleet - the last of humanity - as they journey toward the fabled 13th colony, Earth. The second war against the Cylons is over, and The Twelve Colonies have been destroyed. Now Commander Adama of the Battlestar Galatica and President Laura Roslin lead a ragtag fleet of refugees in a supposed search for the fabled lost thirteenth colony, Earth. However, the dangers they face are many, which compound an already difficult situation. In addition to the Cylons hunting and attacking the fleet in space and their infiltrator units carrying out sabotage–even as their former unwitting pawn, Gaius Baltar, helps in the hunt for them while hiding both his own guilt and the strange presence that haunts his every thought–the fleet also faces internal political conflict in which the rabble-rousing figure Tom Zarek is merely the loudest dissenting voice, not to mention recurring shortages of food, water, and even oxygen. In the midst of these trials, however, clues begin to appear to suggest that Adama's bluff about finding Earth might hold more truth than anyone could have guessed. The first two seasons of the show were engrossing and simply amazing. Any Sci-Fi fan will admit to that.

But, hey, there is such thing as overdoing it with the drama. And BG overdid it. It was simply too much, I couldn't stand the melodrama anymore and to this date I don't know what happens in the end as I stopped watching at S4E09.

The focus shifted from survival to the characters but in such a way that one could easily forget that these people are running for their lives.

The writers need to understand that some of us when we want deep character stories we read books, we do not watch sci-fi shows on TV.

What potential the show had died the moment they decided that watching characters like Starbuck, Adama and even the Cylons have sex, cry like babies and being emotional and emotionally unstable is more interesting than watching them fight for their survival and that of their species. Rarely do I comment on TV programs but I thought that this was worthy of me putting pen to paper so to speak.

I cannot speak highly enough of the remake of Battlestar Galactica. They have captured perfectly the highs and lows of what it must be like for mankind to be at war with machines whilst on the run. From the musical score to the special effects it is clear this has not been a low budget remake. Each character is developed, for me, perfectly and there has been not one 'filler' episode to date.

When I first saw Starbuck as a woman initially, as I guess most did, thought this would be a mistake but for me but I must say that Katee Sackhoff is superb in her role here, believable and compassionate to her role.

If you are even remotely interested in Sci-Fi then this, I feel, is a serious contendor to Star Trek or the X-Files. Even if you aren't interested in Sci-Fi you will find this an excellent story and excellent TV.
Yes, although it's producers call it a "reimagined" series, due to some slight differences. A battlestar is a very lage spaceship, kind of a cross between a battleship and an aircraft carrier.
